The leadership team—Nate+, Kristen+, and Jennifer—has been working hard these last several months, preparing for a new phase in our mission process as we put key elements together. We’ll be starting a community group in January as a way to connect with one another during the week and have plans for regular outreach and service to our immediate community. In this process we’re grateful to be receiving coaching as a team by a seasoned church planter. It’s an exciting time to be in this place, and we anticipate that many people will meet the Jesus we follow, and be changed. We can’t wait to tell you next year what amazing things God has done!
In some ways, we aren’t that different than Adoniram and Ann Judson. While we aren’t traveling to far-off lands (though some of us are transplants to New England and the culture shock is significant) we are on an extended journey here. Our goal is to walk on a pilgrimage with others, deeper into the presence and freedom of God. The Pilgrimage unfolds in several contexts: weekly in our celebration service, community groups, “Cross-Training” small-groups, and monthly in “Co-Mission” events of service and outreach to our community. As individual lives are transformed by walking more closely with Jesus, the neighborhoods will change. As the neighborhoods change, so will the city. As does the city, so will New England. God has done this faithfully throughout the centuries. We are praying and trusting that revival will once again transform Salem, New England, and the nation!
Just like the Judsons, or any other missionaries sent today, we do not enter this work alone. We rely on God’s grace and provision, supplied by the support of brothers and sisters like you who will pray for us, who will offer financial gifts, and who will encourage us to press on when we are weary. We continue in the confidence that 2 Corinthians 9 remains true in the church that Jesus is building.
We’re in the process of developing a prayer partnership team of at least 1,000 people who will pray for us regularly. Because we want “thanksgiving to overflow in many expressions of thanks to God” (2 Cor. 9:12), we’re committed to pray regularly for each of our prayer partners and each of our financial co-laborers. If you’re not on our prayer team (or receiving email updates), and you’d like to be, please let us know.
We’re also in the process of building a financial support team. One church already has made a three-year commitment to support us monthly, and we are encouraged by the generosity of our core group which tithes approximately $900/month! We’re asking God for others to support us in this early part of our church life: would you consider supporting us in any amount with either a one-time gift, or a monthly pledge for the next six months?
This support is crucial because at this stage, our most significant cost and investment is in our leadership team. Currently we are bi-vocational and we thank God for His provision in the form of other jobs. As our ministry support increases, we will be able to invest more of our time in this missionary work.
We’re grateful for your prayers, for your financial generosity, and for your continued encouragements. All of those gifts bless us, and we are thankful to you and to God who answers our prayers in ways we can never imagine.
